Bow-Wowhaus Competition! Sign up Today!
Asheville, along with the Aloft Hotel, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, and the Fine Theatre, is sponsoring a design/build competition of doghouses to be auctioned as part of The AIA Asheville Bow-Wowhaus event in November.

Deadline for the entry into the competition is September 15, 2012. You can send the filled out form to info@aiasheville.org.
June Meeting
Jane Mathews, AIA, LEED AP, principal of Mathews Architecture, P.A., will present the story behind the design and construction of the City of Asheville’s first LEED™ Certified building. The Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Center is the first phase of a new concept and direction in how the City provides services through its Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department.
Member Input Sought on Value of AIA membership
The membership committee needs Section members of different ages and work situations — solo practitioners, corporate firm staff, public sector members, associates, educators, etc. — to share what they value about their AIA membership,to include tangible (discounts, education,…) and intangible benefits (leadership opportunities, peer support, socials). Your “testimonials” will be used anonymously by AIANC to inspire and encourage new members and retain existing members. | LUX Lighting will host a Box Lunch at their showroom by Carolina Controls. Program details:AIA 1 HSW LU Learning Objectives: 1. Through examination of the LED industry, the participant will be able to describe the features and benefits of LEDs as a general illumination light source, and the applications where LEDs excel to ensure operational safety and occupant productivity. 2. Studying the components of an LED system will enable the participant to explain an LED luminaire and each component involved to ensure effective and safe operation. 3. By examining existing control types and standards, the participant will be able to identify the differences between power line, 3 wire and low voltage control. 4. Analysis of LED drivers will enable the participant to identify the differences between constant current and constant voltage drivers and which applications require which type of driver to ensure safe operation and expected performance.
